You all owe us a favour...
Jun. 26th, 2005 09:15 pmas I am resisting the temptation to tell you in detail about the hilarious consequences of Tiny's stomach upset.
In return for this I will accept helpful tips on driving from South London to Glasgow and back (no, "Don't" does not count, even without a travel cot we still generate huge quantities of luggage, including a human-sized Clanger head - attend Friday's play to find out why), probably involving an overnight stop at a B&B in the Lake District.
He has never driven (nor I navigated) north of Stourbridge (in fact we're going to come to Caption the week before specifically to practice driving - when we got in today for a trip to my brother there were actual cobwebs on the driver's door handle).
Good places to sleep, eat, avoid? I know this is thinking some way in advance, but if we want to stay somewhere nice in the Lakes in August we'll need to.

Slightly old advice...
Date: 2005-06-26 10:02 pm (UTC)When we went to Glasgow for 2kon, we stopped at what is now the Premier Travel Inn, Killington Lake (Southbound). Would be £50 this far out. Again no breakfast. Service station food was nicer here.
Both of these are service stations, so emphasis is on functionality rather than charm. But there's no messing around finding a strange b&b in the dead of night, and you're straight on the M6 in the morning.
They were very nice to us at Killington Lake when we arrived at 12.30 am. We'd had KL recommended to us over BiK because it was cheaper and better. So it proved, although
(a) it is further
(b) you have to head southbound for a little while; AND
(c) when you leave for Glasgow in the morning, you have to be a bit cheeky to avoid going south all the way to the next junction.

Date: 2005-06-27 12:28 pm (UTC)We were amused, but I think you had to be there. If you really insist, the key features were a mysterious odour of cheese and a splat, splat, splat noise.
