Inaccurate depictions of caterpillars in children's books.

FFS, they're insects, so they've got SIX LEGS. They're not bloody millipedes, with legs all along their body, they've got six legs, is it so hard to count up to six? (And don't say "Ah, but they're meant to be prolegs" - they bloody aren't, you just can't draw.)

And, the legs all come out of the thorax, like on all insects; caterpillars do NOT (yes, Eric Carle, I'm looking at you here) have four legs at the front and two at the back, no matter how hungry they are. Do some bloody research, will you? Oh, and while I'm at it, that butterfly you drew on the last page is upside-down.

I know it's petty, but children's books are full of caterpillars, and they're all drawn wrongly. If I was an entomologist I'd be sodding incandescent.

....now that you've released all the pressure, you are ready for a new start...

"So, what book would you like for bedtime? Hairy MacLary? Brown Bear Brown Bear? Or (mumbles) theveryhungrycaterpillar?" "Hungy Capillar!"

Repeat every night for the last three months or so. And now I find out it's not even educational...

I also have it on good authority that Wild Things cannot in fact be tamed simply by staring angrily at them.

Ah, I'm so glad I'm not the only person to be annoyed by that butterfly.

I used to read it to Small in her highchair, and only ever read it upside down from my POV, so it came as a bit of a shock when I read it the other way round and realised that it still looked wrong. It irritates me faintly every single time I see it.
