Employer has given me free eye test voucher which I have taken up as it's been at least two years since my last test.
Bizarrely one eye has improved whilst the other has deteriorated. The optician then gave me the hard sell about this being the cause of any tired eyes, headaches, nausea and general ill-being I may be experiencing, all of which will be cured by new lenses. I have now of course started to notice all the symptoms he mentioned. But I thought I loved my existing glasses until I started trying other ones on (of course the ones I try on don't have my lenses in (or even an approximation thereto like my existing ones) so I look much better in the mirror regardless of their shape). I must make a decision but I don't know what.

[Poll #728138]

The one thing I definitely know is that I don't want to go to Specsavers because I really don't need two sets of glasses.

I've gone for the 'money no object' version :-)

You could get the Specsavers offer and pay the extra to get one pair with tinted lenses? Although I actually went for two pairs and find it works quite well - the heavy plastic frames I like for work are a bit heavy when paired with casual outfits, so I now have glasses to complement my two different looks.

I always think it's worth getting new glasses, as a) my old ones are always really battered by the time I get round to getting new ones and b) it's useful to have a backup pair for those "oops dead glasses" moments.

Spec savers ...

... have other offers you know! You could get the "react to light" lenses instead.

Or you could get one nice frame with lenses you like, and another (identical or totally different frame) with sunglass tint or anti-glare or with a slightly different prescription (it has been suggested by some opticians that having a pair that are slightly weaker makes the eye muscles work and stronger eye muscles are a *good* thing)

I'm thinking of one pair of varifocals and one pair of "fixed distance VDU" glasses that will sit in the drawer at work (and which work will pay £50 toward as they are for VDU use only!)

Having a spare pair of glasses in the car glove box is such a useful thing also, in case anything untoward should happen when I'm travelling ...

Sorry in advance because this is me on my soapbox. NEVER get new glasses based on a prescription change. Eyes vary through the day by about 2 prescription graduations (about 0.5 dioptre for me) and your eyes adjust to your prescription. Getting new glasses with a stronger prescrition makes your eyes worse. If you want new glasses because they are getting bit old, battered scratched or you just fancy a new style great but not for a changed lens power unless your prescription has changed by more than a bit.
