Commercial I don't mind. I'd be quite happy if it was sponsored by Vicodin, because that has something to do with the programme. But Spontex comfy gloves? WTF?
I have to admit, I don't know what Spontex comfy gloves are, or do. But the marketing people will have decided that the kind of people who really need to buy comfy gloves are the kind who will watch House. Not sure if that's an insult or not, but then when Friends was on, it was sponsored by Jacob's Creek, the wine that lets you kid yourself you are popular and cool.
Thanks - unfortunately it is of minimal use to us as we have neither The Five Doctors nor an MP3 player - booh hiss. However the site was new to us and V good, thanks. Have spent a happy 10 minutes browsing the raves over Empty Child/Doctor Dances - must rewatch immediately!
I could swear I was hypnotised by a VHS of TFD at one of your parties: mind you the commentary is synchronised with the (Special Edition) DVD so it wouldn't fit anayway.
I own neither and just listened to it online ("podcasting" is, as far as I can tell, just one more in a long sequence of attempts to sell the file-transfer software people already have to them again). The best bit is where they recount how Terrance Dicks had not prepared for his pitch meeting with John-Nathan Turner and just invented the plot on the spot from items he could see around JNT's office: the dalek toy, the Doctor Who game ("...of Rassilon"), the Prydorian robes that JNT always wore etc.
Dicks later told the anecdote to his nephew, Bryan Singer, and the rest is history.
