New adventures in stupidity

I have in the past mentioned several incidents of self-inflicted ouchness. Yesterday, though, I struck a new low.
To set the scene, I have an embarrassing hobby. I make card models. You buy a kit containing sheets of printed cardboard, you score, cut, fold, glue, and wind up with something like this, assuming that you are more patient and less ham-fisted than me. If I'm being honest, you're more likely to wind up with this, which worked very nicely until Small wondered how the chickens moved.
Anyway, last night, I was busy working on my latest model, when I realized that the piece being glued into place wasn't going to fit. One of the slots wasn't quite long enough to accommodate its tab (probably because I hadn't cut it out sufficiently accurately in the first place), so an on-the-spot alteration was needed. Scissors out, make the slot bigger, and now it fits like a charm. But, now I've got glue on the scissor blades. Oh dear, I think, I don't want that to dry on there.
So I wipe the scissor blade clean.
With the pad of my thumb.
This was, in case you hadn't guessed, a really stupid (not to mention painful) thing to do. I had the good sense to get my thumb well away from the model before it got bled on (although since it's a Routemaster bus, that's not so much of an issue).
You'd be surprised at quite how many things you use your left thumb for, which become ridiculously painful when you slice it open. I was.
PS This is the first time I've tried to put links into an entry, so if they're completely wrong, my apologies.
