Well, if you enjoyed Season 2, then you will undoubtedly still enjoy Season 3 when you get to it, so sticking to your current methodology is probably fine!
Oh, and I pirate it. Because: 1) I buy the Blu-Rays later on anyway, so they get some of my cash. 2) I already pay for the top Virgin TV tier, and if Sky want to arse around and keep the TV all to themselves then I am not playing that game. 3) I hate being spoilered. 4) I want to take part in the discussion when it happens.
With the the understanding that everyone is different and this kind of advice is close to pointless... Just read all the books. If you enjoy them why not?
I think I should point out that HBO has pointed out that it is "extremely relaxed about piracy". I think the S3 DVDs will be out much more quickly than the S2 DVDs, anyway.
