Hmmmm: technically true but....
Mar. 17th, 2012 02:13 pmThe central photo section of today's Guardian contains a picture of several people in Noddy suits bowing over bunches of flowers. The text is as follows:
Okuma, Japan.
A year after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and tsunami, which left 15,854 dead and 3,155 missing, families in anti-radiation suits pray for the victims in an abandoned town inside the nuclear exclusion zone.
Now, I'm pretty agnostic on the lessons of Fukushima concerning nuclear safety, but I can't see how that text is anything other than grossly distorted. People forget details about events on the other side of the world very quickly, and the actual split of how many of those deaths were due to the tsunami as opposed to the nuclear disaster is, ummm, not the one you'd guess from that text.
