Vegetarian meal, yummy and reasonably posh/Making Effort but not hugely time consuming, for four people who do not eat mushrooms, lentils, cooked cheese, or aubergines.
Carrot fritters and chilli jam. Veggie burritos (Flatbread, mixed peppers, beans, cheese, sour cream, hot sauce, salad) served with vegetable chips/crisps/little roasties and roast tomatoes. Hit the tart shop to pick up pudding.
Given that warm cheese might count as cooked cheese, you'd probably better make theirs without cheese. But with burritos, there's no reason for everyone to suffer.
I'm the troublesome cheese-hater, and I don't fancy the sound of a cheese-free veggie burrito. I love the idea of carrot fritters, but I think I should save my effort for a main course.....hmmmm
Vegetable curry (think Nigel Slater did one on simple suppers), or the Caribbean route with rice and peas? Pasta with a tomato sauce, and bruschetta. Any of the above with roast vegetables. Many varieties of soup. Piperade. Poached eggs in a tomato-chili sauce. There's also the Japanese route: miso soup, noodles, tofu, sweet japanese omelette.
Dessert is probably the big chance, but we're not very good at those, so we normally cheat by buying it from the patisserie.
