I can confess to practically all of these despite myself at some point, but they are certainly rife in Clapham.

1. Salt, saturated fat and non-organic produce are to be avoided in your children's food at all costs. However, this only applies to "children's food". Sophisticated European food such as pesto, anchovies, parmesan and chocolat con churros does not come with labels listing salt content, and thus any salt in it does not count.

2. Sitting in front of the TV instead of getting outside and getting some exercise and fresh air or performing independent play is a terrible terrible thing. Curling up with a book for hours on end is a very good thing indeed.

3. If your child has memorised the names of all the Teletubbies, the Tweenies, the Angelina Ballerina books and the words to the complete Wiggles oeuvre then this is a terrible sign and they are probably mentally retarded. If they have memorised the names of the characters in the Mikado and can recognise Ming Campbell on sight then they are an incipient genius.

4. A fondness for Camberwick Green, Bagpuss and the other children's programmes of the sixites and seventies is morally superior to a preference for Lazy Town and the Tweenies.

5. Constantly showering your child with toys, books etc will not make them spoiled if it was all a really terrific bargain and/or second hand.

6. Sitting in front of the TV mindlessly is very bad. A trip to the cinema is culture and improves attention span.
