Lyrics Quiz of Shame - The Answers
oh, dear,
sparkymark, can you ever live this down.
The answers to the quiz! (I've unscreened comments now)
1) So the years went by/ I stayed the same/ But she began to drift away/ I was left alone
Sarah McLachlan - When she loved Me (Toy Story 2)
2) And we're like giants up here in our big yellow digger/ Like zoids, or transformers, or maybe even bigger
Nizlopi - The JCB song and I cannot believe no-one got that
3) Welcome to our tropical hideaway/ You lucky people, you/ If we weren't in the show starting right away/ We'd be in the audience too
Hilary Duff - Tikki Tikki Tikki Room
4) Bright young women, sick of swimming, ready to stand.
Jessica Simpson - Part of Your World (Little Mermaid)
5) Now I'm off the social flat line/ Things are so good that I'm/ Taking down my star-trek shrine
Son of Dork - Ticket out of Loserville
6) Only it's wise to be handy wiv a rolling pin/ When the landlord comes to call
Jack Wild & cast of Oliver! - Consider Yourself
7) Got a smile on my face/ I’m a rocket ship in space/ I can do anything
Laurie Berkner - Magic Box
8) Scoop me up/ and fly me through the city/ hold me tight/ let's fly away
Lou Reed & Laurie Anderson - Gentle Breeze It took me ages to find out who the female singer is on this - despite having seen her live, I'd never actually heard Anderson singing properly
9) Cynthia wore the prettiest dress/ With different color socks/ Sometimes I wondered if the mates were in her lunchbox
Matt Nathanson - Starfish and Coffee but as
jackfirecat knew, the original is by Prince.
10) It followed her to school one day,/ Which was against the rules
Paul McCartney - Mary Had A Little Lamb my Beatle obsessed brother claims that the recording of this song was an act of political subversion by McCartney when his record company wouldn't let him release give Ireland Back to the Irish as an A-Side. Nonetheless, FUNradio plays it all the bloody time.
11) A little bit of timber and a saw/ A little bit of fixing that's for sure/ A little bit of digging up the roads/ A little bit of moving heavy loads/ A little bit of tiling on the roof/ A little bit of making waterproof
Neil Morrissey - Bob The Builder's Mambo No 5 No, really, there's an entire album full of this stuff.
12) I can organise you, supervise you/ I'll always advise you, super surprise you.
Kim Tserkezie - Penny Pocket song (Balamory)
13) It always looks so cool/ When spaceships come out of the pool
Busted - Thunderbirds are Go!
14) Living there/ You'll be free/ If you truly wish to be
Maroon 5 - Pure Imagination
15) Give me the power of Man's red flower
Louis Prima - I Wanna Be Like You of course.
16) C'est la fête, c'est la fête,/ Service garanti impec'./ Mettez votre petite bavette chérie, et nous,/ On veille au reste.
This is the one which I can't find an artist for, but couldn't resist - It's Be Our Guest, from Beauty and The Beast, in French, mais bien sur.
Songs 8 and 14 are from Mary Had A Little Amp, song 9 is from For The Kids Too, the sequel to the similarly excellent For The Kids. If you're curious there are samples on the Amazon pages - the Maroon 5 is well worth a listen.
Songs 3 and 4 are perpetrated on Disneymania, which I would in no way recommend, and if you claim I did, I'll sue (Jump 5's Beauty and The Beast with a beat is too poor for FUNradio, and they play Barney...).
And the scores are...
sparkymark a deeply shaming 8,
asajeffrey 4, but I'm sure he'll learn more of this stuff in the years to come, much, much more.
undyingking 2
jackfirecat two half-points despite his best efforts to pretend he didn't know any of them (and probably an extra two if he'd bothered to name the songs, tut tut)
cleanskies none whatsoever, not even Mary Had a Little Lamb - you're fooling nobody.

So far, I've managed to keep the kiddy music at arm's length, this is probably unsustainable, especially after J discovers Disney.
