The Lyrics Quiz of Shame

This is my revenge for all the overly cool I-pod based lyrics quizzes which seem to be out there. All of these are garnered from the play-list of FUN Radio, the listening choice of the discerning three year old, and with a couple of exceptions, any songs you can identify will detract from your musical credibility enormously.

In order to spread the shame around, I wish to admit that all of these are songs which I will happily sing along to (you should hear the ones I won't own up to liking, or rather, you shouldn't as they frequently involve Barney and "the magic words please, and thank you").

Some of these are evil cover versions, so to make it slightly easier, here is an alphabetical list of performers - your task is to name the song and pick the performer. One performer has been omitted because I can't find them, but couldn't resist the lyric anyway, and one has been omitted because the lyric is far too obvious anyway.

Performers:
Laurie Berkner
Busted
Hilary Duff
Paul McCartney
Sarah McLachlan
Neil Morrissey
Matt Nathanson
Maroon 5
Louis Prima
Lou Reed & Laurie Anderson
Jessica Simpson
Son of Dork
Kim Tserkezie
Jack Wild

Lyrics:

1) So the years went by/ I stayed the same/ But she began to drift away/ I was left alone

2) And we're like giants up here in our big yellow digger/ Like zoids, or transformers, or maybe even bigger

3) Welcome to our tropical hideaway/ You lucky people, you/ If we weren't in the show starting right away/ We'd be in the audience too

4) Bright young women, sick of swimming, ready to stand.

5) Now I'm off the social flat line/ Things are so good that I'm/ Taking down my star-trek shrine

6) Only it's wise to be handy wiv a rolling pin/ When the landlord comes to call

7) Got a smile on my face/ I’m a rocket ship in space/ I can do anything

8) Scoop me up/ and fly me through the city/ hold me tight/ let's fly away

9) Cynthia wore the prettiest dress/ With different color socks/ Sometimes I wondered if the mates were in her lunchbox

10) It followed her to school one day,/ Which was against the rules

11) A little bit of timber and a saw/ A little bit of fixing that's for sure/ A little bit of digging up the roads/ A little bit of moving heavy loads/ A little bit of tiling on the roof/ A little bit of making waterproof

12) I can organise you, supervise you/ I'll always advise you, super surprise you.

13) It always looks so cool/ When spaceships come out of the pool

14) Living there/ You'll be free/ If you truly wish to be

15) Give me the power of Man's red flower

16) C'est la fête, c'est la fête,/ Service garanti impec'./ Mettez votre petite bavette chérie, et nous,/ On veille au reste.

7) It's not Morressey is it?
8) Ash
9) Prince, clearly!
10) Prince again or Puff the Magic Dragon
11) Van Morrison
12) micro-managing how freaky; Paul McCartney
13) got to be Laurie Anderson
14) Simba
15) King Louie
16) Serge Gainsbourg

I think I have to award that an impressive half a point out of a possible 32 for getting the character singing rather than the singer, with maybe an extra half for getting an original artist rather than the performer I was looking for.
I'm not replying to most posts on the grounds that I don't know how to reply without unscreening them and giving the answers away - but I think I'll make an exception in this case....

Thank you. I treasure my point.

Ah, evidently we both have a copy of Mary Had A Little Amp...

8) Gentle Breeze - Reed and Anderson
14) Pure Imagination - Maroon 5

8 is the only Reed/Anderson collaboration I'm aware of, evidently they keep their professional/personal lives separate. Er, trying to keep some pretence of musical credibility...

Heh, I only know one of these, 15 Louis Prima 'I Wanna Be Like You-ou-ou'. At least I can still just about remember my own childhood, even if I'm woefully out of touch with the youthlets of today.

Some of them really are good - some of them are good for certain (low) values of good. As I said, I'm prepared to own up to liking all of them, but I have no shame.
[livejournal.com profile] asajeffrey has identified the album that some of them come from, and I will do the same in a couple of days.
