As you all know - I am a devoted and selfless mother whose sole purpose in life is the happiness of her kiddywinks. My close friend A feels exactly the same about her darling brood, who include Small's best friend.

It is important that they are introduced to theatre at an early age.
Pantomime has a unique joi de vivre and historical resonance which enriches the emotional development of young children and connects them to their cultural heritage(s).
Wimbledon is easily accessible by public transport.
Hence it was morally necessary that A and I took Small and BF to see John Barrowman as Prince Charming in Cinderella.

Some overtraditionalist commentators may point out that Prince Charming is traditionally played by a girl. I was indeed of that opinion until recently, when I realised that in 21st Century Britain there should be room for alternate representations of traditional gender stereotypes, especially if that involved Captain Jack in a variety of fetching frock coats.

Good? Well for certain values of Captain Jack in frock coats flirting with the Ugly Sisters, corpsing (and flirting with) Tim Vine as Dandini and singing ludicrously overblown and frankly crappy showtunes in a big big showtune voice, then yes, I'd have to say yes. Actually I'm still absurdly grateful that he's enough of a trouper to do a Sunday matinee after Dancing On Ice last night, as I'd braced myself for a standin, but he is clearly not a man to pass up the opportunity to wave Vote For Me signs in front of a full house (DOI relies on phone in votes).
In subsidiary news: Peter Duncan was good with the kiddies as Buttons; Tim Vine was clearly born to play panto - he apparently got 3 dozen of his jokes stuck onto darts and flung them gaily at the script, which suited me; Richard Wilson was ok-ish as Baron Hardup, but clearly cut no ice with the kiddies who were not born when OFITG was killed off; I suspect the Ugly Sisters make their living on the drag circuit outside of panto season, and brought the cleaner half of their act with them, which entertained the parents but left the under 10's cold.
Oh and Small seemed to enjoy it.

Morally necessary?

I imagine an audience of leching Doctor Who fans.

Did he make any Dockerkoo/Captain jack gags?

No, he entered to a quick blast of the Dr Who theme from the orchestra, but most of "his" jokes were about the skating.
