Cut for near-toxic levels of cuteness - not to be read by diabetics.

Tiny has several words, though casual acquaintances are usually unaware of this as he uses CAR! (meaning "wheeled vehicle", or possibly "wheel") roughly ten times as much as all the rest put together.
He says Daddy very satisfactorily and can also name Small and our cleaner to a standard recognisable by us though probably not any currently available voice recognition software. He does Hallo (meaning telephone) Bye Bye, Apple, Cat, Plane, Rah-Rah-Rah (means Dinosaur, it's complex) and a floating pool of other nouns, some of which get learnt and forgotten again over a couple of days.

But I have one word I wish he would learn - I don't think it's really too much to ask for a sixteen-month-old boy to be able to say Mummy. My favourite word of his is Cuggle, a nauseating combination of hug and cuddle which I foisted upon his sister, but now that she is rejecting it as being incorrect (she does a lot of that) I have transferred it to him. When I came into the room he would turn to me and say Cuggle! which I interpreted as a request to be rescued from whatever dungeon he was incarcerated in.
Can anyone guess where this is going? Yes it gradually dawned on us that Cuggle is not a request, it is my name.

By contrast Small's new words include Sycorax, Martian, (the sofa could not contain her excitement at seeing the TARDIS arrive with Rose and EvenNewerDoctorWho inside at Christmas, it became necessary to run around the room squealing, but to be fair there were moments in The Christmas Invasion when I was doing that myself on the inside) Corinthian, foundling, (the Georgette Heyer shelf is at her eye level outside her bedroom) and carrion (another long story).
Actually whilst I've got the lj-cut up to warn people that I'm perpetrating appalling doting parent anecdotes I might as well ask for another offence to be taken into account.

The scene - Small is cutting out bits of paper with her toddler scissors.
Small "I done a face. pause It hasn't got eyes, or a nose, or a mouth."
Mother "That sounds like a funny sort of face."
pause
Small "It's a white blood cell."
I blame the How Your Body Works book.

Possibly we should call you cuggle to remind you of the benefits of teaching children English? We had to look up Sycorax - presumably the Doctor Who monster rather than the moon of Uranus or character from The Tempest.

Our bet for J's first word is "Lola". Serves us right for picking an easy-to-say dog-name. K keeps saying "mommy" over and over again, probably futilely: damn those "m" sounds, damn them to heck.

"Corinthian"? As in columns, or scarey eye-eaty bloke?

Both Small and Tiny's actual first word was Cat - exciting thing, easily identifiable, easy word to say. Daddy is much easier to say than Mummy, but I think Small's difficulty with the word is metaphysical - because we're so rarely apart I'm not quite sure he recognises me as a separate person - he's certainly never gone through separation anxiety.

Corinthian as in amateur sportsman - an obscure meaning nowadays but the context was a Georgette Heyer novel.

Small's vocabulary is already better than mine then.

Rather than the "Fear Factor 5" Sandman character.

Any insights from the littlun onn The Christmas Invasion?

As above, she was just blown away by it. She was a bit worried at the beginning when Rose's mummy was all alone, then she ran round the room screaming with joy when the TARDIS turned up, yelling "It's the TARDIS! Rose and ENDW are inside!" Lots of cuddling up to me for the scary bits and general good vibes - she just loves the pacing and the incidentals however much the plot details go over her head. Frankly it made the entire parenting experience worthwhile.
I think she prefers ENDW to New Doctor Who already, but she is highly resistant to Old Doctor Who of any flavour. I'm not looking forward to Rose leaving though, it may be traumatic as I'm pretty sure that Rose is what she likes best.
